Going Digital

Digital Downloads

We’ve recently gone fully digital!

All maps will be supplied in only electronic format: from our scaled Planning Maps to our range of Wall Maps for office and leisure use.

There is no change to the maps we already supply in electronic formats – if you usually buy DXF/DWG files for CAD, GeoTif tiles for ArcGIS or QGIS, or usually get 1:1250 maps for planning applications by email – everything is still the same.

All of these maps are now only supplied in PDF, JPEG or TIF formats are set up ready-to-print at the size ordered. We have a printing guide for our planning maps here: How to Print to Scale

Most planning bodies are accepting electronic submission of maps for planning applications, registering land, etc. Supplying our clients with electronic copies of OS mapping makes sense in terms of efficiency – 94% of map files are sent within 30 minutes of the order being placed.

We understand that not everyone has easy access to a printer for those times when you might need to print a map off, and we have a couple of solutions.

  • If you absolutely need a paper copy of a map we recommend using your local library services or a local printer to help – particularly with the large Wall Map files.
  • If you’d like to mark up your planning application and submit electronically but do not have a drawing package on your desktop/laptop/tablet – we have an online tool to help you highlight your area: click here. There is a video to help you navigate the tools and easily mark-up your plan.

All custom mapping produced by the cartography team is supplied electronically. We’ve had custom map clients moving to digital mapping for some time and in fact it gives us more flexibility in terms of maps sizes. We’re recommending using local printing firms to produce the custom maps, as with all of our maps we produce these as Ready-to-Print files.
